2. John Steinbeck was born on February 27th 1902 in Salinas Valley, California.
3. East of Eden, Of Mice and Men and Viva Zapata were some of Steinbeks books that were made into films.
4. He wrote the book Of Mice and Men in 1937.
5. During the Second World War, Steinbeck served as a war correspondent for the New York Herald Tribune. He continued to work, writing books and manusscripts.
6. In 1964 Lyndon B. Johnson awaded Steinbeck the United States Medal of Freedom.
7. John Steinbecks museum is called the National Steinbeck Center.
8. He was 66 years old when he died in 1968.
9. In Steinbeck’s novel The Moon Is Down, it was assumed that the story took place in Norway, evolving around the Norwegian Resistance Movement. He later received Haakon VII Medal of Freedom for his contributions to the movement.
10. The two main characters in Of Mice and Men are Lennie and George. Lennie is a big guy and a very good worker, but he’s also mentally disable and is very dependant on George. George is a much smaller guy than Lenny, and he’s the smart one. Without him, Lennie wouldn’t manage. They have both got something the other one need. Together they travel from ranch to ranch trying to find a job so they can earn money.
The book tells us how these two men try to pursue their dream of owning their own ranch instead of working always for other people.
